Holland settles for runner-up result at Baton Rouge

Chase Holland appeared to have locked up his 19th victory of the season with a triumph in the Crate Late Model division at Baton Rouge Raceway on Friday evening. However, electronic timing ultimately determined that was not the case in a controversial finish.

Holland, who was one of 24 Crate Late Model competitors at the 3/8-mile oval in Zachary, Louisiana, opened the evening by clocking the third-quickest time in qualifying aboard his Apex Fab & Equipment No. 45 machine. He went on to win his heat race from the pole and started third in the 20-lap feature.

Holland took over the main event's top spot on the 17th circuit and seemed to lead the final four laps, with a nose ahead of Mikey Kile at the checkered flag. But while Holland was taking photos in victory lane, track officials determined Kile was actually the victor by 0.003 seconds. Thus, Holland was relegated to the runner-up spot. Shannon Lee, Tootie Arnold and Bryce Fauntleroy rounded out the top five.
